Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) dismissed team captain Graeme Cremer and entire coaching staff on Friday after a poor performance in the ICC World Cup qualifiers. The ZC had asked all of them to resign from their respective posts, but it did not happen and the Sangh dismissed them all.
With this, the main coach Heath Streak, batting coach Lance Klusener, bowling coach Douglas Hondo and fielding coach Walter Chawaguta, fitness coach Sean Bell and team analyst Stanley Chioja ended with the ZC team.
This is the first time in the 36 year history of cricket world when Zimbabwe’s cricket team will not be part of the tournament. It is being said that the ZC Cricket Board has told team captain Graeme Cremer about his decision, along with coach and Other support staff have also set a deadline for their post.
The term of the team’s coach Heath Streak is ending in October while the contract with the other support staff will end in May. All the team members, including batting coach Lance Klusener and bowling coach Douglas Hondo, have to leave their position. Talking about ZC’s performance for some time, the team’s performance has been disappointing. The poor performance of the team is believed to be the reason behind the decision of the board. Along with Zimbabwe’s senior team, the under-19 and Zimbabwean A team’s performance is also poor.
The next year’s World Cup qualifiers were held in ZC but the team could not qualify for the tournament. This time the West Indies and Afghanistan have qualified for the World Cup. Because of not being able to qualify for the World Cup by ZC, there is disappointment among all the cricket fans. After such a team’s performance, the board has taken strict measures under the efforts to take the team in the right direction.
